The Little Yellow House has been in the Davis family for a long time.  In fact, everyone in our immediate family has lived here at some point!  Jamie’s uncle gifted us this special house during our engagement, and it was our first home as a married couple.  Because of that, we were able to invest a bit more into renovating and adding lots of thoughtful value to the home.

First, we extended one of the bedrooms to make a master suite, complete with vaulted ceilings, a new bathroom, and new closet.  The kitchen was previously galley style, so we extended it to make it open-concept with a large island and pantry, which was more conducive for our love of entertaining friends and family.  We filled in what was once a walkway between the front porch and the back deck, which provided valuable heated square footage to the home, adding extra space to the kitchen, dining room, and mudroom.  Finally, we created a beautiful laundry room out of what was once a mudroom, so there would be plenty of space for the practicals of running a home.

This was our first project, and with a smaller newlywed budget, we learned so much in the process - how to stretch our money as far as possible, how to finish some projects ourselves instead of paying to outsource, and finding solutions and details that were cost-effective and beautiful.
